Pali er eit gammalt indoarisk språk som mellom anna er nytta i mange eldre buddhistiske tekstar. Det er ikkje eit levande språk i dag, men blir nytta religiøst innan theravada-buddhismen.
Den buddhistiske palilitteratur omfattar mellom anna den kanoniske skriftsamlinga Tipitaka, dei srilankiske krønikene Mahavamsa, Dipavamsa og Culavamsa, og ein stor kommentarlitteratur skriven av mellom anna Buddhadatta, Buddhaghosa og Dhammapala. Tradisjonen omfattar også eit stort omfang grammatisk litteratur.
