«Limbo Rock» er ein song om limbo-dansing skriven av Kal Mann (under pseudonymet Jon Sheldon) og Billy Strange. Ein intrumentalversjon vart først spelt inn av The Champs i 1961. Den første vokale versjonen vart spelt inn i 1962 av Chubby Checker (på Parkway Records). Singelen hans nådde andreplassen på Billboard Hot 100 i to veker (berre «Telstar» av The Tornados låg på toppen) og gjekk til topps på Cash Box-lista. Chubby Checker-innspelinga nådde òg tredjeplassen på R&B-lista.[1]
Checker gav seinare ut oppfølgjaren «Let's Limbo Some More», i 1963, som nådde 20. plassen på Billboard-lista.[2]

I 1960 lytta studiogitaristen Billy Strange og ein ven til ein song på radioen. Strange meinte at han kunne skrive ein betre song på fem minutt. Venen hans vedda hundre dollar på at det var noko han ikkje kunne. Strange tok fram ei skriveblokk og kom opp med ein melodi på under fem minuttar medan teksten berre var «What a monotonous melody» i kvar linje. Han vann veddemålet. Då han seinare gjorde ei innspeling for Ricky Nelson vart Strange spurt om han hadde ein song for innspelinga. Som ein spøk song han «What a Monotonous Melody»-songen. Nokre månader seinare spurte manageren til Chubby Checker, Kal Mann Strange om han kunne spele inn songen med ein annan tekst, og dette vart «Limbo Rock».[3][4]

Songen er blitt spelt inn av mange andre artistar, som Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass, The Ventures, Fozzie Bear (på Muppet Beach Party), Sebastian the crab, Chet Atkins og Hank Snow (på fellesalbumet C.B. Atkins & C.E. Snow by Special Request), The Knickerbockers, Klaus Wunderlich, The Routers, Arthur Lyman, Skiantos, Jaume Sisa. Fordi songen bokstavleg talt handlar om limbo, finst det mange versjonar av mindre kjend band innan latinamerikansk musikk, calypso og reggae. Songen er òg populær på barnemusikkalbum.
