Diaplektisk glas er eit amorft material danna ved at mineral har vorte utsett for ei sjokkbølgje utan at dei har smelta.
Ved eit meteornedslag kan sjokkbølgjene skape kortvarige trykk på 250 000 til 1 mill. atm, og temperaturar i området 600–1000 °C. Slike sjokk kan omdanne til dømes feltspat og kvarts til diaplektisk glas. Transformasjonen kan vere særs selektiv ved at andre mineral blir rørt lite eller slett ikkje, noko som skuldast at krystallstrukturen hos feltspat og kvarts er meir open enn hos dei fleste andre mineral. Dei fysiske eigenskapane til diaplektisk glas er annleis enn hos normalt glas og representerer overgangsstadium mellom dei krystallinske fasane og
normalt glas.
