MOS Technology 6502 er ein 8-bits mikroprossesor skapa i 1975 av ingeniørane Chuck Peddle og Bill Mensch for MOS Technology. Då den vart lansert, kosta den betydeleg mindre enn konkurrerande alternativ som Intel 8080 og Motorola 6800. Likevell var den fullt kompatibel med konkurrentane. Saman med Zilog Z80 la 6502 grunnlaget for heimedatamaskin-bylgja på åttitalet.

MOS Technology 6502 var i hovudsak utvikla av det same laget som utvikla Motorola 6800. Etter å ha sagt opp stillingane sine hjå Motorola, byrja utviklarane å sjå etter andre produsentar og fann MOS Technology. Her utvikla dei først MOS Technology 6501. Ettersom denne prosessoren var designmessig lik konkurrenten M6800, kunne prosessoren nytta dei same hovudkorta. Dette fekk Motorola til å sjå raudt og MOS Technology måtte gå tilbake til teikneborded. Resultatet vart at MOS Technology utvikla 6502, en prosessor som designmessig var forskjellig, men elles lik 6501.
