Looking for two stories, one with a group of special children, one where a kid finds out his dad is a fairy

The first book starts out with a child who's really good at puzzles, he sees an ad in the paper advertised towards children who have special skills. The ad tells the children to go to a place to take a test. He goes. Tries the test, it's about 1000 pages long, but he reads through the whole thing and realises its a puzzle. So he figures it out, passes the test and joins up with some other children with abilities, one is really smart, another is a girl who can tell the dimensions of a room just by looking at it. They're lead by some professor. They go undercover at a school to find out who the villain is and discover it's their professor's identical twin.

The second book is about when a kid finds out his dad is a fairy, maybe some important political figure. So he goes to fairyland. Apparently, in fairyland no one wears clothes. That's pretty much all I can remember.
