Reynoldstalet er eit tal som skildrar strøyminga i ei væske eller ein gass. Det er lik forholdet mellom den kinetiske energien til væska eller gassen og det indre friksjonsarbeid, som heng saman med viskositeten. Ved ein viss verdi for Reynoldstalet går straumen over frå å vere laminær til å bli turbulent. Samstundes aukar friksjonen i væska til det mangedobbelte. Den farten dette skjer ved vert kalla kritisk fart. Kjennskap til Reynoldstalet er viktig ved overføring av resultat som er oppnådd ved forsøk med små modellar til modellar i full storleik, t.d. vindtunnelprøvar med modellar til fly i full målestokk.
