Columbia er eit av dei eldste superkontinenta på jorda. Det vart først lagt fram av J.J.W. Rogers og M. Santosh,[1] og ein meiner det eksisterte i perioden frå 1,8 til 1,5 milliardar år sidan i paleoproterozoikum. Det bestod av proto-kratonar som utgjorde dei tidlegare kontinenta Laurentia, Baltica, Ukraina, Amazonia, Australia og kanskje òg Sibir, Nord-Kina og Kalahari i tillegg. Bevis for eksistensen til Columbia er basert paleomagnetiske data.[2]

Columbia er estimert til å ha vore om lag 12 900 km frå nord til sør og om lag 4800 km på det breiaste. Austkysten av India hang fast i vestlege delar av Nord-Amerika, medan sørlege delar av Australia hang saman med vestlege delar av Canada. Det meste av Sør-Amerika var snudd andre vegen slik at dagens Brasil låg langs austsida av Nord-Amerika og danna ein kontinentalmargin som strekte seg inn i sørlege område Skandinavia.[3]
