Okay so I read this book when I was a kid so I only remember a few details, but I really want to find it.

It was about a kid who I'm fairly certain gets trapped in his video game because there's one part I remember very clearly about him being in a temple (I thiiink it was filling with a black liquid? There was some kind of timer) and it was a level he had never been able to beat because he couldn't figure it out. I'm pretty sure the Mayan calendar was somehow involved.
I also know there was something up with monkeys. Specifically, I seem to remember a one eyed monkey being important.

I hope that's enough for someone to recognize it. I really want to take a look at it again.
